Mount Vernon, NY (May 7, 2009) – More than 50 Hopfer School of Nursing students and two members of the faculty traveled to Albany on Tuesday, April 21 to participate in the annual Lobby Day sponsored by the New York State Nurses Association. They joined more than 2,000 registered nurses and other nursing students to promote several key pieces of legislation. Hopfer students spent the afternoon visiting their legislators and advocating for laws designed to help patient safety and reduce the shortage of nurses.
In addition to showcasing issues of importance, the students also received a tour of the Capitol. A highlight for many was the photo session with Governor David Patterson. Hopfer representatives returned to Mount Vernon with a sense of accomplishment and pride in lending their voices to legislation that can improve quality of care for everyone.
